When Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica, it didn’t only damage homes and roads — it cut off food for the animals that were already the most vulnerable. Street dogs that survive on scraps suddenly had nothing, and families who could barely feed themselves had no way to feed their dogs either.
So we flew out with your donations and got to work.
What your support paid for
On the ground, we bought dog food in bulk from a local distributor and ran emergency feeding rounds across the affected communities — for street dogs and for families’ dogs alike. Bowl after bowl, day after day, hungry dogs got a proper meal at a moment when it mattered most.
What stayed with us wasn’t only the dogs — it was the people. Time and again, local residents stopped us to say thank you, often while struggling themselves. That gratitude is the clearest proof of why this work matters, and why we’ll keep showing up when disaster strikes.
Why emergency feeding is so urgent
After a storm, the window to prevent suffering is short. A dog that misses meals for days becomes weak and vulnerable to disease and injury. Getting food out fast keeps dogs alive long enough to recover — and it builds the trust that makes future rescue, treatment and rehoming possible.
